Orujov initially tried chess at age seven but soon realised it wasn't for him. His grandmother introduced him to judo, and he quickly became passionate about the sport. Judo taught him quick decision-making, boosted his self-confidence, and developed his perseverance.

Professional Career and Achievements

Orujov competes for the Neftchi Sports Club in Baku. He has been coached by Ruslan Mashurenko from Ukraine and Elkhan Mammadov from Azerbaijan. One of his most memorable achievements is winning a silver medal in the -73kg category at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout his career, Orujov has faced several injuries. He suffered a rib fracture at the 2019 European Games in Minsk but recovered to compete at the World Championships in Tokyo two months later. In 2015, he missed the World Championships in Astana due to a four-month injury but returned to compete at the Grand Slam event in Paris.

Awards and Recognition

In June 2021, Orujov was honoured as the flag bearer for Azerbaijan at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. For his performance at the 2016 Olympics, he received the Order for Service to the Fatherland (third class) from Azerbaijan's president.
