In 2011, she joined the AV Lionitas club in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. Running was her way of unwinding. She now represents Eindhoven Atletiek in the Netherlands. Since 2020, Tim Rowberry has been her personal coach.

In 2020, Athletics Weekly named her International Female Athlete of the Year. The Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation awarded her Sportswoman of the Year in 2019. Additionally, she was named Athlete of the Year by the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation in both 2018 and 2019.
Her sporting philosophy is simple: "The feeling of winning is so beautiful I just want to win." This motto drives her to excel in every competition she enters.
She relocated to the United States in 2016 and joined the Nike Oregon Project. After the group folded in 2019, she continued training under Tim Rowberry. The COVID-19 pandemic forced her to split her time between the Netherlands and St. Moritz, Switzerland, training remotely with Rowberry.
At age 15, her mother sent her to seek asylum in the Netherlands. She received a refugee residence permit a year later and obtained a Dutch passport in 2013. She feels Dutch but acknowledges her Ethiopian roots.
Looking ahead, she aims to win a gold medal at the upcoming Olympic Games. Her dedication and past achievements suggest she is well on her way to achieving this goal.
Fluent in Amharic, Dutch, and English, she continues to inspire many with her journey from Ethiopia to becoming a celebrated athlete in the Netherlands.
