Sally Pearson Biography

In 1999, at the age of 12, Pearson competed in the Queensland Little Athletics Championships. It was here that coach Sharon Hannan noticed her talent and invited her to join her squad. This marked the beginning of Pearson's professional journey in athletics.

International Debut

Pearson made her international debut in 2003 at the World Championships held in Paris Saint-Denis, representing Australia. This was a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her potential on a global stage.

Achievements and Awards

One of Pearson's most memorable achievements was winning a gold medal in the 100m hurdles at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea. She has received numerous accolades, including the Don Award from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2012 and 2014. In 2014, she was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Challenges and Injuries

Pearson has faced several injuries throughout her career. In early 2016, she suffered an Achilles tendon injury that caused her to miss the World Indoor Championships in Portland, OR, USA. In June 2015, she experienced a minor tear in her calf muscle during the Diamond League event in Rome, Italy, leading to a fall that resulted in a broken and dislocated left wrist.

In 2014, Pearson missed Diamond League events due to a strained hamstring. She also missed the 2013 Australian domestic season with a torn hamstring but returned for the World Championships in Moscow. Other injuries include a quadriceps muscle injury in December 2011 and a torn disc in her back before the 2009 World Championships.
