Sara is married to Frank Ostholt, an accomplished equestrian who won gold for Germany at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. They have two children, Wilma and Eric Wilhelm. The family resides in Warendorf, Germany, where they run Ostholt-Eventing.

Challenges and Setbacks

Throughout her career, Algotsson Ostholt has faced several injuries. In May 2022, she suffered a concussion and bruised ribs after falling from her horse at the Baborowko CCI2* event in Poland. She has also broken her collarbone twice and once broke her foot while walking in high heels.

Notable Incidents

In May 2019, Sara experienced a tragic incident when a fire broke out in her horse transport while travelling from Poland to Sweden. Two horses, Chackos Crack and Apertina, were severely affected. Despite efforts to save them, both horses succumbed to their injuries.

Olympic Journey

Initially named as a reserve for the Swedish eventing team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Sara was called up to replace Ludwig Svennerstal after his horse developed health issues. She expressed readiness to shoulder the responsibility and compete with her horse Chicuelo.

World Equestrian Games Withdrawal

In 2018, Algotsson Ostholt withdrew from the World Equestrian Games in Tryon due to concerns about her horse Wega's health. The horse struggled with the flight and quarantine conditions, leading Sara to prioritise Wega's well-being over competition.

Relocation to Germany

In 2008, Sara made a significant decision to move from Sweden to Germany. She left her office job of 13 years and relocated with three family horses to Warendorf. This move was motivated by her desire to compete in larger events and further develop her riding skills.
