Sara Dosho Biography

Dosho was influenced by her father to take up sports. She explored judo, karate, and aikido before settling on wrestling. Her introduction to the sport came through a gym run by coach Eikatsu Yoshida, father of renowned wrestler Saori Yoshida. Dosho trains with Toshinjyuken in Japan under coaches Hideo Sasayama and Kazuhito Sakae.

Achievements and Awards

One of Dosho's most memorable achievements is winning gold in the 69kg category at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This victory made her the first female Japanese wrestler to win gold in this category at the Olympics. She has also received numerous awards, including the Wrestling Special Award at the 2017 Pro-Wrestler Grand Awards in Japan.

In 2014 and 2016, she was honoured with the Obu City Sports Honorary Award and the Mie Prefecture Citizen Honorary Award. Additionally, she received the Aichi Prefecture Sports Achievement Award in 2014.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout her career, Dosho has faced several injuries. She suffered an inflamed left knee at the 2019 All Japan Championships and dislocated her left shoulder at the 2015 All Japan Championships. In 2018, she underwent surgery on her shoulder after another dislocation at the World Cup event in Takasaki, Japan.

In 2014, she fractured her left leg during a bout at the World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, requiring two months of rehabilitation. Despite these setbacks, Dosho remains determined to excel in her sport.

Outside of wrestling, Dosho enjoys reading comics, watching Japanese cartoons, and listening to music. She has a unique pre-competition ritual of eating gyudon (beef bowl) with fellow wrestler Eri Tosaka. Her sporting philosophy is: "It's better to regret the things that you've done rather than regret the things that you haven't done."
