Sarah Walker, a renowned BMX athlete from Kawerau, New Zealand, began her journey in the sport in 1999 at the age of 10. She quickly made her mark by winning her first national championship just two months later. Walker's interest in BMX started out of boredom during one of her brother's races.

Throughout her career, Walker has faced numerous injuries. In February 2016, she broke her arm during training in Cambridge. This double fracture was one of 11 fractures she has suffered to her arms in four separate incidents. She returned to training by April 2016.
In September 2013, Walker injured her wrist in a crash in Chula Vista, California. Earlier that year, she fractured her elbow in June. In April 2012, she dislocated her shoulder during a race in Oslo, Norway. Despite this injury, she competed in the London Olympic Games that year but eventually required surgery that sidelined her for five months.
Beyond BMX, Walker enjoys volleyball, listening to music, skiing, and interior design. She had trials with the New Zealand volleyball team after playing the sport in high school. Her passion for interior design is evident as she designed a house next to the BMX training facility in Cambridge.
After retiring from BMX, Walker plans to be involved in interior design and architecture. She aims to incorporate energy-efficient ideas into new builds. Following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she will be involved in designing and project managing another new build in Cambridge.
Walker's sporting philosophy is encapsulated in her motto: "When my memory is completely gone, it will be great to read back over my experiences and smile." This reflects her positive outlook and appreciation for her journey.
