Shin Jeahwan Biography

Shin represents Jecheon City Hall in the Republic of Korea. He trains under the guidance of Lee Kwang-Yeon at the club level and Jo Seong-Min at the national level.

Shin's parents have been the most influential figures in his career. His hero is Korean gymnast Yang Hak-Seon, who won gold in vault at the 2012 London Olympics. Shin emulated Yang by winning gold in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In December 2021, Shin faced a back injury that limited his performance at the Korean national team selection trials for the 2022 season. He had previously undergone surgery in high school to insert metal pins into his back due to spondylolisthesis, followed by a six-month rehabilitation period.

Shin began experiencing panic attacks a month before the 2020 Olympics, which took place in 2021. In October 2021, he fainted during training ahead of the World Championships and was diagnosed with panic disorder. In December 2021, he assaulted a taxi driver while intoxicated, attributing it to his condition.
