Sideris Tasiadis Biography

Tasiadis' family has Greek origins. When he was five, his family moved back to Greece to help his grandfather with farming. They stayed in Komara until 2000. During this period, Tasiadis forgot German but later regained fluency.

He learnt paddling on the rivers around Augsburg. Initially, he was scared of wild water training but eventually adapted. He believes that natural rivers teach respect for water forces, which helps him gain a competitive edge.

Achievements and Influences

Tasiadis competed at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016. He considers these participations as his most memorable sporting achievements. His first coach, Klaus Gebhard, has been the most influential person in his career.

He idolises Slovak slalom paddler Michal Martikan and French slalom paddler Tony Estanguet. His sporting philosophy is "No risk, no fun." In 2017, he was named Augsburg Sportsman of the Year in Germany.

Professional Life

Besides being an athlete, Tasiadis serves in the elite sports programme of the Bavarian police. This programme allows athletes up to eight months off per year for training and competitions.

Tasiadis enjoys supporting the Augsburger Panther ice hockey team during his free time. His partner is Denise Sattich.
