Simone Manuel Biography

Manuel's parents wanted her to be safe in the water. Watching Michael Phelps win eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics inspired her to aim for the Olympics. She trains with Alto Swim Club in Palo Alto under coach Greg Meehan. Her regimen includes 20 hours a week of training, with nine swim practices and three weight training sessions.

Manuel made her international debut in 2013, competing for the United States. She earned the nickname "Swimone" and has been recognised for her achievements. She was named among SwimSwam magazine's Top 20 Swimmers of the 2010s and received several awards from USA Swimming.

Throughout her career, Manuel faced several injuries. In March 2021, she was diagnosed with overtraining syndrome and took a three-week break. She also dealt with tendinitis in her hip during the 2017/18 season and had nasal surgery before the 2016 Rio Olympics due to chronic sinusitis.
