Her career has not been without challenges. In May 2010, she tore her knee ligaments ahead of the world championships in Barbados, sidelining her for almost a year. In 2015, she underwent two operations on her left knee, requiring over six months of rehabilitation.
Despite these setbacks, she achieved significant milestones. She won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. For this accomplishment, she received the Order for Merits to the Fatherland (first grade) from the president of Russia. She also holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia.
In April 2016, she announced her decision to turn professional before the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. A serious injury at the end of 2014 made it difficult for her to regain shape in time for the Olympics. Additionally, conflicts with her team coach hindered her rehabilitation process.
She felt that the team was not interested in having an Olympic finalist from 2012 back on the team. Consequently, she decided to pursue a professional career. Her first professional bout was scheduled for May 2016 in Moscow.
Residing in Odintsovo, Russia, she speaks Russian fluently. Her idol is US boxer Roy Jones Jr., whom she admires greatly. Apart from boxing, she was also a champion in kickboxing in Russia in 2001.
Her journey reflects resilience and determination. Despite injuries and conflicts, she continues to strive for excellence in boxing.
