Gianniotis, known by nicknames Spyros and Spiros, grew up in Athens. He speaks both English and Greek fluently. His family and coach Nikos Gemelos have been the most influential figures in his career.

Achievements and Recognition

Gianniotis was voted 2012 Greek Athlete of the Year by Greek sports journalists. He also had the honour of being the first torch bearer for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The torch was lit at the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia using the sun's rays.
