In November 2018, Horacek tore her anterior cruciate ligament and damaged the meniscus in her left knee during a match. This injury required surgery, causing her to miss the 2018 European Championship in France. She returned to competition in August 2019. Additionally, she injured her shoulder in October 2018, sidelining her for three weeks. In 2014, she underwent surgery on her right knee.
Handball runs in Horacek's family. Her mother Vesna is a former professional handball player who won national titles with clubs in France, Slovenia, and Austria. Despite this, Horacek prefers not to be compared to her mother. "People talk to me about it all the time and I find it irritating because I do not want to be compared with her," she said.
The time spent away from the sport during her rehabilitation helped Horacek improve both physically and mentally. "It was complicated because I was having an explosion [in her sporting performance]. I was good physically. But later I thought it would be a part of my career that would make me stronger," she explained.
Born in Croatia, Horacek lived in Austria as a child before settling in Metz, France, in 2004. She had the option to play handball for Croatia but chose to represent France. "France is my country. I feel good here; this is my home," she said.
Looking ahead, Horacek aims to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Her journey reflects resilience and dedication to the sport she loves.
