Tatiana Kashirina Biography

Her introduction to weightlifting was serendipitous. She visited a gym by chance and easily lifted a 20-kilogram barbell. Coach Vladimir Krasnov noticed her potential and suggested she take up the sport seriously. Tanya has since described weightlifting as her hobby, work, and passion.

Club and Coaching

Tanya trains with Dynamo and Geraklion clubs in Russia. She has been coached by Vladimir Krasnov since 2002. Her international debut came in 2009 at the European Championships in Bucharest, Romania, representing Russia.

Achievements and Honours

Tanya has received numerous accolades throughout her career. In 2019, she became an Honorary Citizen of the Bogorodsk city district in Moscow region. She was named Best Female Lifter at the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The International Weightlifting Federation named her Female Lifter of the Year in 2013 and 2014. After winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she was awarded the Order for Merits to the Fatherland [first grade] in Russia.

Tanya also holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia. Her sporting philosophy is to respect both stronger and weaker opponents equally, with a focus on surpassing herself.

Challenges and Injuries

Injuries have been part of Tanya's journey. She suffered a minor ankle injury before the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, which affected her performance. Despite these setbacks, she continues to strive for excellence.

Personal Life

Tanya enjoys spending time with her dog, going to the cinema, using the computer at home, and embroidery with glass beads. Her heroes include Russian weightlifters Svetlana Khabirova, Albina Khomich, and Valentina Popova.

Early Years

Tanya's parents were initially against her taking up weightlifting due to concerns about her health. They feared it would affect her ability to have children. Despite their objections, she continued training secretly until they eventually accepted her decision.

Further Education

In addition to her sports education, Tanya graduated in law from Southwest State University in Kursk, Russia. This academic achievement complements her athletic career.
