India vs Togo, Davis Cup: Captain Rohit Rajpal Addresses Absence of Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri Ahead of Draw

India vs Togo, Davis Cup: As India gears up to face Togo in a crucial Davis Cup tie, the absence of two of India's top tennis players, Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri, has been a talking point.

Rohit Rajpal, the non-playing captain of the Indian Davis Cup team, expressed his disappointment at their withdrawal but remained optimistic about resolving differences and building a cohesive team for future ties.

Speaking at a press conference, Rajpal acknowledged the impact of losing two key players but emphasized the importance of unity and adaptability. "We certainly missed our number one singles player and our number one doubles player-there's no two ways about it. Both Sumit and Yuki have served India well before. Whatever differences exist this time, I am making an extra effort to mend those ties," Rajpal said.

Rajpal revealed that he had reached out to the players before the tie, but efforts to bring them back were unsuccessful. However, he remains hopeful about finding common ground. "It's a complex issue. Tennis is a brutal game; players are away from home, traveling week after week. It's not easy to survive on the road. We need to be more sensitive to their needs. They've done good service for India before, and I see no reason why they won't continue to do so in the future."

Despite the absence of Nagal and Bhambri, Rajpal expressed confidence in the current squad, which features a mix of experienced players and promising debutants. He stressed the importance of building a strong pipeline of talent to ensure the depth needed for international competitions.

"The Davis Cup is a different kind of pressure. Playing for your country is not the same as playing on tour. We are working to condition the younger players to handle that pressure early so they're mentally ready when it counts," he added.

Rajpal's leadership has been instrumental in fostering a strong team environment, and he reiterated his commitment to nurturing both current and future talent for Indian tennis. With the Davis Cup tie against Togo just days away, the focus remains on preparation and teamwork.

India's chances will be tested without Nagal and Bhambri, but Rajpal's optimism and determination to resolve differences signal a positive path forward for Indian tennis.
