Wieten began rowing at the age of 10 with RV Willem III in Amsterdam. Initially, he wanted to play street hockey like one of his friends. However, his mother encouraged him to try rowing first. He quickly developed a love for the sport and never looked back. "Rowing is Zen," he said. "If it is good on the water it is very relaxed."

Club and Coaching

Wieten is currently affiliated with ASR Nereus in Amsterdam. His national coaches are Mark Emke and Eelco Meenhorst. Under their guidance, Wieten has honed his skills and achieved notable success in rowing competitions.

Awards and Recognition

In August 2016, Wieten received the Rising Star award from World Rowing. This recognition highlighted his potential and dedication to the sport. The award was a significant milestone in his rowing career.

Focus on Tokyo Olympics

In February 2019, Wieten decided to pause his nursing studies to prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "It is on the back burner for now," he said. "I will temporarily leave to fully focus on the Olympic Games." This decision underscored his commitment to achieving excellence in rowing.
