Tristan Bangma, an accomplished athlete, motivational speaker, and student, has made significant strides in Para cycling. He began his journey in the sport in 2012 after his vision deteriorated, which halted his basketball pursuits. His father introduced him to tandem cycling, leading him to attend a Dutch Olympic Committee talent day where he chose cycling over other Para sports.

Bangma's dedication to the sport is evident through his regular high-altitude training in Sierra Nevada, Spain. His hard work paid off when he won gold medals on the track at the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Games. These victories are among his most memorable achievements.
After the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Bangma began working with pilot Patrick Bos. Together, they have formed their own commercial team, Bangma Tandemteam. They manage all aspects of their training and competitions themselves, from booking tickets to bike repairs.
In addition to his athletic career, Bangma has pursued education in finance at Leiden Educational Institutions (LOI) in the Netherlands. He has also studied marketing communications at Johan Cruyff College Nijmegen and business administration at Horizon College in Alkmaar.
Bangma's contributions to Para cycling have been recognised with several awards. Notably, he received the Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau in the Netherlands after winning gold at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Looking ahead, Bangma aims to win three gold medals at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. His philosophy of believing in one's own power continues to drive him towards achieving this goal.
Bangma's journey from a young boy riding bikes with his father to a decorated Paralympic cyclist is a testament to his resilience and dedication. With continued support from his guide Patrick Bos and his unwavering commitment to the sport, Bangma is poised for further success in the future.
