Wang Chi-Lin Biography

Wang's passion for badminton was sparked by his parents' encouragement. His most influential figure in his career is Chinese Taipei badminton player Chen Hung-Ling. Wang also looks up to Korean player Lee Yong-Dae and Indonesian players Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan.

Achievements and Milestones

Wang and his men's doubles partner Lee Yang made history by becoming the first badminton players from Chinese Taipei to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. They achieved this feat at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The duo also shared the Most Improved Player of the Year award at the 2020/21 Badminton World Federation Player of the Year Awards.

Challenges and Injuries

Wang has faced several injuries throughout his career. In 2023, he injured his right thigh during the men's doubles semifinal at the Asian Championships in Dubai, forcing him and his partner to retire from the match. In late 2022, he dealt with inflammation in his left Achilles tendon and was sidelined with plantar fasciitis in his right foot between September and November 2022. He also withdrew from the 2019 US Open due to a waist injury.

Besides being an athlete, Wang is also a student. He has studied for a PhD at the University of Taipei. His hobbies include singing and following basketball. Wang is fluent in both English and Mandarin.

Looking ahead, Wang aims to win a medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. He also plans to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His sporting philosophy is simple yet profound: "Don't forget why you started."
