Chargesheet in FIR against outgoing WFI chief to be submitted by June 15: Anurag Thakur

New Delhi, Jun 7: After meeting the elite wrestlers in a marathon meeting, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday (June 7) said a chargesheet in the case into the allegations of sexual harassment against outgoing WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh will be filed by June 15.

Addressing a press conference after a marathon meeting with the protesting wrestlers, Thakur also assured that the elections to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) will be held by June 30.

Noting that the government has accepted every demand of the wrestlers, he said WFI will also have an internal complaints committee, headed by a woman. Thakur said the wrestlers had also demanded the withdrawal of cases against various academies and sportspersons as well as not allowing Singh and his associates to participate in the election process.

"All these issues were agreed by consensus," the sports minister said. Asked about the wrestlers' demand for Singh's arrest, Thakur said the investigation into the case will be completed and a chargesheet will be filed by June 15.

This was the second meeting between the government and protesting wrestlers in a span of five days. The wrestlers had met Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday night and apprised him of their demands.

Interacting with media persons after meeting with Sports Minister, Sakshi Malik said, "The Government has sought time till June 15 for the investigations to conclude, but the wrestlers' protest is not over yet."

"We have been asked to suspend our protest till police complete its investigation by June 15," she added. Wrestler Bajrang Punia also told that they discussed several issues with the minister, including the matter of security of all female wrestlers.

Punia informed the media, "We had a discussion on some issues. Police investigation should be completed by 15th June and the minister has requested us not to hold protests until then. He also said the security of female wrestlers will be taken care of. We have requested that all FIRs against wrestlers should be taken back and he has agreed to it.

"Government has assured us that the police investigation will be completed before 15th June. We have requested that all FIRs against wrestlers should be taken back and he has agreed to it. If no action is taken by 15th June, we will continue our protest."
