Saurav Gurjar, TV serial Mahabharat's Bheem set to make his WWE debut

New Delhi, Feb 5: You must have watched him essay the role of mythical characters like Bheem, Bali, Ravan in the television serials based on Mahabharat and Ramayan. But actor Saurav Gurjar is all set to embark upon a new career as he's going to be a professional wrestler.

Gurjar has reportedly signed a WWE developmental contract and has become the latest Indian to join the professional wrestlers in WWE.

Saurav, who hails from Dabra in Madhya Pradesh, has a background in boxing and kickboxing, has been the Haryana State Boxing Champion before taking up acting. He has, however, returned to the wrestling now and has gone to the USA to train for his WWE debut.

Gurjar has always loved the WWE superstars like the Undertaker, Kane and The Rock and his dream of representing India have finally become a reality.

Intially, Gurjar will be entering the ring in WWE NXT. NXT is a professional wrestling television programme that is produced by WWE and is broadcast on the WWE Network every Wednesday. NXT serves as the flagship television show of WWE's developmental system.

He was quoted by Times of India as saying, "It had been a dream of mine since childhood to be a WWE wrestler. I am from the Chambal valley, where kids usually have two options - to join politics or the sand mafia. But I always wanted to be a professional wrestler. Everything that happened in between - sports, acting - was by chance. I did enjoy all that success par hamesha lagta tha ki yeh meri manzil nahi hai."

Being a die-hard WWE fan, Saurav too grew up watching and emulating the signature moves of wrestlers like Kane and The Undertaker as a kid. Now, he will be performing his own moves in the WWE ring.

"My father is a farmer and we didn't have a TV growing up so I would watch wrestling fights at my neighbour's place. I grew up watching people like The Undertaker, Kane, and The Rock. Kane was someone I idolized and I can't wait to meet him. Although I'm sure if he walks up to me in the ring, I would be too stunned to say or do anything," he added further.

As per Saurav he hasn't yet decided his ring name but wants to use the word Bheem for it was his portrayal of the Mahabharata character that earned him fame.

"Fans know me by the name of Bheem and it will be easy to pronounce for the westerners. So, I want it to be something like that. But, whatever it is, I can assure you, it will be very Indian," he added further.
