Xu Jiayu Biography

Jia Yu pursued higher education in Sport Studies at Zhejiang College of Sports in Hangzhou. He later studied for a master's degree at Beijing Sport University. His academic background complements his athletic career, providing a strong foundation for his achievements.

Professional Career

Jia Yu is an athlete representing Zhejiang Province in China. His coach, Cai Li, has been instrumental in his development. Jia Yu's career highlights include becoming the first male swimmer from China to win an Olympic medal in a backstroke event. He claimed silver in the 100m backstroke at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Awards and Honours

In 2022, Jia Yu was named a Top 10 Outstanding Youth in Wenzhou. In 2018, he received the Best Breakthrough Athlete of China award at the FINA World Aquatics Gala and was named one of China's Top 10 Athletes of the Year by Xinhua News Agency. Jia Yu faced significant challenges during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He dealt with a lower back injury and a gastric ulcer while competing. Despite these setbacks, he continued to perform at a high level.

Jia Yu credits his former coach Xu Guoyi for helping him overcome discipline and motivation issues early in his career. Xu Guoyi passed away from brain cancer in July 2020. Jia Yu recalls how Xu Guoyi's strict discipline helped him focus on his goals.
