Yauheni Tsikhantsou Biography

Evgeny started weightlifting at nine years old. His initial exposure to the sport came after experimenting with other sports during his childhood. A gym visit with a friend led him to discover his passion for weightlifting. Winning his first competition solidified his commitment to the sport.

Training and Coaching

He trains at the Stayki Republican Olympic Training Centre in Minsk, Belarus. His personal coaches are Mikhail Rabikovsky and Valery Sizianok. Their guidance has been instrumental in his development as a weightlifter.

Challenges and Injuries

In 2019, Evgeny suffered a hip injury during training just before the World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. To avoid worsening the injury, his coaches switched him from the 96kg category to the 102kg category. This change allowed him to avoid losing extra weight before the competition.

Evgeny's sporting philosophy is unique. He believes in individuality and does not look up to anyone. "I believe that every person is very individual, so I don't look up to anyone. I'm just trying to become better," he said.
