Dutt's father has been the most influential person in his career. His admiration for Balraj Pehlwan further fuelled his passion for wrestling. He trains under personal coach Narendra Hillal and represents Haryana Police in competitions.

Dutt's career has been marred by several injuries. A knee injury forced him to withdraw from the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas. In 2013, he missed the World Championships in Budapest due to a torn right medial collateral ligament.

In 2010, a back injury prevented him from competing in the Asian Games in Guangzhou. He also tore his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in 2009, sidelining him for six months. A knee injury affected his preparation for the 2006 Asian Games.
