Tadese's career is marked by several milestones. He won Eritrea's first Olympic medal by claiming bronze in the 10,000m at the 2004 Athens Games. In 2009, he became the first Eritrean to win a medal at the World Championships, securing silver in the 10,000m in Berlin.
He also made history by winning four individual gold medals at the World Half Marathon Championships by 2009, extending this record to five in 2012. Additionally, Tadese was the first Eritrean to win gold at the World Cross-Country Championships in 2007 and had earlier won silver in 2005.
Tadese is married to Merhawit Soloman and speaks English. His sporting philosophy is simple yet powerful: "If you say to yourself you can do something, then you must have the strength and will to do it." His hero is French footballer Zinedine Zidane.
Tadese's younger brothers, Kidane and Merhawi, have also represented Eritrea in long-distance running. Kidane finished 12th in the 10,000m and 10th in the 5000m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Merhawi competed in the junior race at the 2011 World Cross-Country Championships in Spain.
