Tomar took up shooting in 2015 at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. His interest in toy guns as a child and inspiration from his cousin, Navdeep Singh Rathore, who competed at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, led him to pursue this sport.

Olympic Debut and Achievements

Tomar made his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, finishing 21st in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions with a score of 1167. He has since achieved significant success in various international competitions.

World Championships and World Cup Success

In the World Championships, Tomar secured third place in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team event in Cairo, Egypt, in 2022 with a score of 1324. He also placed ninth in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team event in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2023 with a score of 630.2.

Tomar's World Cup achievements include winning gold in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions in Cairo, Egypt, in 2023 with a score of 588. He also won gold in Changwon-si, South Korea, in 2022 with a score of 593 and New Delhi, India, in 2021 with a score of 1165.

Asian Games and University Games

At the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, Tomar won four medals: two golds, one silver, and one bronze. He set a world record of 1893.7 points in the Men's 10m Air Rifle Team event alongside Divyansh Singh Panwar and Balasaheb Patil Rudrankka.

In the 2023 World University Games, Tomar won four medals: three golds and one bronze. His performance further solidified his reputation as a top shooter.

Awards and Recognition

Tomar received the Arjuna Award from the Government of India in 2023. He was also honoured with the Eklavya Award by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2019.

Challenges and Resilience

In his first year at the national level, Tomar faced suspension for not meeting equipment regulations. A butt plate was found to be below the permitted level by 1cm. This technical issue led to a one-year suspension from tournaments. Tomar described this period as his toughest but used it to rebuild his career from scratch.
