Schwazer's early involvement in sports included playing ice hockey at the U16 international level. His dedication to race walking led him to join the LG Brixen-Bressanone club in Italy. Under the guidance of coaches Sandro Donati and Mario De Benedictis, he honed his skills and achieved notable success.

In 2008, Schwazer was honoured as a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. This recognition highlighted his contributions to athletics and his standing in the sport. Challenges and Controversies

Schwazer's career faced a significant setback in July 2012 when he tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) during an out-of-competition test. The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) banned him from the sport for 42 months. Additionally, he received a further six-month suspension for evading doping tests.

The controversy extended to his personal life when his partner at the time, Italian figure skater Carolina Kostner, was banned from her sport for 16 months for assisting him in covering up his doping. Her ban was later increased to 21 months.

Despite these challenges, Schwazer became eligible to return to competition in April 2016. His ambition was to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This marked a significant moment in his career as he aimed to make a comeback on the international stage.
