Ankita hails from Maroda village in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Growing up, she trained with boys preparing for Army selections in her village, which is situated at a high altitude of 1400 metres.

Career Highlights

In May 2023, Ankita qualified for the Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand for the 1500m event. Her journey to this point has been marked by several significant achievements.

In January 2021, she won gold medals in both the 1500m and 5000m events at the Federation Cup Junior U-20 Athletics Championships held in Sangrur, Punjab. Later that year, she continued her winning streak by securing gold in both events at the Junior National Championships in Guwahati. During this competition, she set a Junior National record in the 5000m with a time of 16:21.19, surpassing Sunita Rani's previous record of 16:21.59 set 23 years earlier.

In August 2021, Ankita participated in the World Under-20 Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya, competing in both the 1500m and 5000m events.

Her earlier career also includes notable performances. In 2018, she won gold in the 200m at the Youth Nationals in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The following year, she clinched victory in the 1500m at the Junior Nationals in Ranchi and secured gold medals in both the 1500m and 5000m events at the Khelo India Youth Games held in Pune.

In 2020, Ankita continued to dominate by winning gold medals in both the 1500m and 5000m events at the Khelo India Youth Games held in Guwahati.
