A key highlight of this year’s Asian Games is its illustrious venue, Olympic Sports Expo Center in Hangzhou City. Hangzhou became only the third Chinese city to gain this prestigious privilege of hosting Asian Games after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010. A total of 44 venues will be used for the Asiad 2023, including 30 existing facilities and 14 newly constructed ones. From these 44 venues, 30 are within Hangzhou and its districts, while other 14 are in the cities of Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing, and Jinhua. A new high-speed rail line was constructed between Hangzhou and Huzhou for the Asian Games.
Hangzhou assumes a notable role in the Asian Games' history, presenting itself as a fertile ground for fostering regional camaraderie and promoting a spirit of healthy competitiveness. The robust sporting event is expected to witness the participation of over 12,500 athletes from 45 nations engaging in 40 sports across 61 disciplines, reflecting the expansive and diverse nature of the participating sports lineup. India, with a strong sporting tradition and a history of notable performances in this continental extravaganza, is scheduled to compete in 39 sports as it sends a strong 665-member contingent.
