Cai Yun made his international debut in 2002, representing China. Although the specific tournament is unknown, it marked the beginning of his journey on the global stage. He is right-handed and has been known by the nickname Cai Ziqiao.

Injuries and Challenges

Cai Yun faced several injuries during his career. In 2001, he underwent heart surgery due to light-headedness during high-tempo training. He described it as feeling like "a rabbit was hopping around in my chest." He also had a cyst removed from under his left armpit and injured a tendon in his knee during the 2007 French Open final.

In 2006 and 2011, Cai Yun and his doubles partner were named the Best Team by CCTV in China. One of his most notable achievements came in 2012 when he and Fu Haifeng won Olympic gold in men's doubles at the London Games. This victory made them the first Chinese players to achieve this feat.
