Galle, July 29: Dominant India crushed a listless Sri Lanka by whopping 304 runs in the first Test to take 1-0 lead in the three match series here on Saturday (July 29).
India recorded their biggest overseas victory in terms of margin of runs and made this win a memorable one. India lost their previous game they played at Galle in 2015.

Team India's newly-appointed coach Ravi Shastri began his campaign with a win. He was the Team Director in 2015 when the team lost the Galle Test.
Chasing a daunting total of 550 runs in the fourth innings, the hosts were bundled out for 245 as Dimuth Karunaratne's valiant 97-run knock went in vain. This is Sri Lanka's biggest defeat in terms of run margin.
The spin twins of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets each as the visitors registered a thumping win over Sri Lanka afer skipper Virat Kohli's century ensured they post a mammoth total on the board.
They were supported aptly by pacers Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav who gave early jolts to the hosts when they came out to chase.

# 550 was the second highest target set by India in a Test after 617 versus New Zealand at Wellington in 2009.
# Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane became the 14th pair to put up 2000-plus runs in Test cricket for India.
