IPL 2024: CSK Fans Touch 127 Decibel At Chepauk As Shivam Dube Hits Consecutive Sixes At Chepauk, Break Record Created By RCB Fans

The electrifying atmosphere at the MA Chidambaram Stadium reached unprecedented heights during the clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans on Tuesday (March 26) in the ongoing IPL 2024 season, as the passionate CSK fans propelled the decibel levels to a staggering 127.

The Chepauk faithful reclaimed their title as the loudest crowd in the IPL on Tuesday. Fondly known as Anbuden by the CSK team and supporters, the stadium refused to cede its noise supremacy to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, home to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), even for a single day.

Just a day back, during the match between RCB and Punjab Kings on Monday (March 25) at Chinnaswamy Stadium, a new record was established as the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers for RCB and Indian cricket stalwart, Virat Kohli.

The match between RCB and Punjab Kings on Monday (March 25) at the M Chinnaswamy saw a new record being created when the crowd erupted into loud cheer in support of RCB and India batting mainstay, Virat Kohli.

However, it was the explosive batting display by CSK's Shivam Dube that ignited the Chepauk crowd into a frenzy during CSK's innings. Dube's scintillating knock of 51 off 23 balls, which earned him the Player of the Match award, included two consecutive sixes off R Sai Kishore in the 11th over.

The Star Sports' 'Shor Meter' soared to an unprecedented 127 dB at the venue, setting a new benchmark for IPL decibel levels during the clash between the Super Kings and the Titans.

Notably, during IPL 2023, decibel levels were consistently measured every time CSK's talisman MS Dhoni stepped onto the field to bat, ranging from 112 to 120 dB. The decibel levels recorded every time MS Dhoni walked out to bat at Chepauk were as follows: 112. 120. 117. 115. 115. 112. 112. 112. 117. 112. 117. 120. 115. 120 (in dB).

On Monday (March 25), the fervour of the crowd surpassed even those sound levels as RCB fans erupted in jubilation at Virat Kohli's stunning catch at extra cover to dismiss Punjab Kings' opener Jonny Bairstow in the third over of the match.

CSK Fans Equal Highest Shor Meter Record Created During ODI World Cup 2023

Earlier in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's dismissal of Australia opener David Warner led to a deafening noise inside the Narendra Modi Stadium with the decibel levels reaching 127 dB.

It's worth noting that during take-off, a military jet produces a noise level of 130 dB, while an aircraft carrier can generate up to 100 decibels. Therefore, it's easy to envision the level of noise created by the crowd at these cricket matches.

The match between CSK and GT in IPL 2024 has equalled that record and set up an all-time high in the history of the IPL. However, one can expect an even bigger noise in the coming days in the IPL season 17 as MS Dhoni - one of the most popular cricketers the tournament has ever had - will walk into the middle to bat or smash a six in the death overs or score the winning runs for his team in a run chase.

What is Star Sports' Shor Meter?

The Shor Meter, is an innovative feature introduced by Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the IPL, to measure the audience's excitement through their decibel level.
