Even as cricket fans in India are recovering from the hangover of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 fever, the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) has started garnering attention with the trade and transfer window.
The IPL 2024 transfer window opened on November 3 and West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd became the first player to be traded between the franchises ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, which is scheduled to be held in December.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the IPL 2024 Auctions will be held overseas i.e. in Dubai on December 19. The bidding process, participated by all ten IPL franchises, will happen at Coca Cola Arena, making it the first overseas venue ever to host an IPL Auction.
An official release from the IPL stated that Shepherd has been traded to Lucknow Super Giants from Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL transfer window. Shepherd could be one of the many players who would be traded between the ten IPL franchises before the window closes and teams prepare for the mini-IPL auction.
The BCCI has also extended the deadline for the release of the list of retained players from November 15 to November 26. The total purse for each franchise for IPL 2024 has been set at Rs 100 crore, which means no team can spend more than this amount to form a full squad.
With the transfer window deadline getting extended, we can expect more trade between the franchises in the coming days before they release the players, who do not fit into the team management's scheme of things in the next edition.
The IPL 2024 transfer window will conclude on November 26, which also coincides with the date for franchises to submit the list of released and retained players. Teams are allowed to engage in player trades/transfers until November 26.
