Commentary
Mark Wood picked up the first five-wicket haul of the IPL 2023 season and handed Lucknow Super Giants a comprehensive 50-run win over Delhi Capitals.
Having posted a daunting 193 for 5 after being put in to bat first on a batting-friendly Lucknow pitch, the KL Rahul-led side restricted David Warner and his band to 143-9 in 20 overs.
Mark Wood picked up the first five-wicket haul in his debut game for LSG. The English speed merchant kept denting the morale of the Delhi batters with his pace and accuracy.
Wood returned with the figures of 5-14 and decimated DC batting line-up as the LSG made a winning start to their campaign at home.
While DC skipper David Warner continued his good form with the bat and slammed yet another fifty but didn't find much support from the other end.
Earlier in the day, Kyle Mayers' sensational knock of 73 off 38 balls and helped his team post a big total. The West Indies all-rounder who was included in the playing eleven in the absence of Quinton de Kock grabbed the opportunity with both hands and made his mark.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will kick off their IPL 2023 campaign at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday. The match will kick start at 7:30 PM IST.
Delhi lost both their fixtures against Lucknow in the IPL 2022 edition to the KL Rahul-led team. The onus will be on David Warner, Delhi's captain for the IPL 2023 season, to get over the jinx and help his team open their campaign with a win.
