Mumbai Indians have endured a disastrous IPL 2024 as their campaign has ended with a bottom-placed finish in the points table. With just 4 wins in 14 matches, Mumbai Indians finished with just 8 points.
They made a change in captaincy before the start of the season. Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma at the helm, and it is fair to say, that the move has panned out to be a gigantic disaster this season.

Rohit Sharma is likely to have played the final time for MI as reports have emerged about the potential rift in the MI squad. The whole season has been a disjointed one for MI, where they haven't looked together, just like a bunch of ego-knitted individuals.
As the season has come to an end, the players are relieved of their misery. Mumbai Indians started the season with three defeats, then managed a couple of wins against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Although the Paltans got three victories in the first seven matches, the 2nd half of the season has been an even bigger disaster, with just a solitary win in the last seven matches. They were beaten twice by KKR at the flag end of the season, and their solitary victory in this period came over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
If we take a look at the performances, it has been a lacking in the team as only a handful of players have played to their potential. Rohit Sharma made a brilliant start, but faded off as the tournament progressed. Captain Hardik Pandya never got any momentum while Ishan Kishan's lack of game time got horrifically exposed.

Jasprit Bumrah showcased his class with the ball despite the disaster around him. The pacer kept on getting wickets and had an outstanding outing with the ball. Bumrah was one of the miserly bowlers in the entire tournament, which is a massive positive for the Indian cricket team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma had a personally tumultuous season due to the off-field sagas, but the MI veteran had his best IPL season in four years for the Paltans. Rohit made a fantastic start but failed to continue the momentum in the latter part of the season. His century against CSK was a class knock, while the fifty against LSG in the final match of the season was vintage display.

Ishan Kishan has been one of the worst players for Mumbai Indians in the season. The southpaw scored only 320 runs for the Paltans and never got any momentum in the season. His lack of game time was vividly exposed as the 25-year-old also lost his place in the Indian team. A solitary half-century in 14 innings itself says about the tough time Kishan endured in the IPL 2024.
Hardik Pandya has found himself in the spot because of his way of leading the team in the season. Pandya scored 216 runs and picked up 11 wickets this season. He was not efficient with the bat and was not at his best with the ball either, but the captaincy on the field has garnered more attention.
Pandya was subject to a lot of fan rage and unfair criticism, and the player failed to break those shackles. Also, the team selection and on-field decision-making had a clear lack of conviction.

Mumbai Indians have previously finished 10th in the IPL table, but this will feel like the worst campaign in their history. Apart from the on-field performances, the sagas outside 22 yards hampered their prospects this season. Hardik Pandya's leadership was bright in patches, but the all-rounder failed to galvanize the team amidst the adversities.

Hence, the franchise will have to buckle up and invest in the right kind of players ahead of the mega auction next year. There are a certain number of players that will be leaving, some of them can be massive names, but the Paltans will have to influx fresh and quality talents in their ranks to rise again.
