Shame on MI trends as Mumbai Indians lose 5 Lakh followers on social media after removing Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians are facing a massive backlash on social media after suddenly removing Rohit Sharma as captain ahead of IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya was named as Mumbai Indians captain ahead of IPL 2024 as the franchise announced on Friday (December 15). The five-time IPL champions traded Pandya ahead of the IPL 2024 from Gujarat Titans.

Although Pandya taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma in future was a predicted outcome, MI's sudden decision to remove Rohit Sharma as captain hasn't bode well with the fans.

Since Friday evening, fans have bashed Mumbai Indians for removing Rohit Sharma and have also taken collective steps to curb the social media presence of the franchise. #ShameonMI has been trending even today as the follower count of MI has been plummeting quite rapidly.

Since they announced Hardik Pandya as captain, Mumbai Indians have lost 5 lakh followers on Instagram and it is still counting. From 13.2 million followers, the current count shows 12.7 million, which is a big blow for them. Even on Twitter, the number of their followers has decreased by around 43,000.

Rohit Sharma leaves a paramount legacy as MI captain. Since being appointed mid-season in 2013, the Indian batter has gone on to lead the franchise to five IPL titles, most recently in 2020.
