Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 Match: Sri Lankan cricket team defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method in their last Super Four match to secure their place in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo on Friday (September 15).

Sri Lanka chased down the target of 252 on the final ball of the 42nd over to pull off a nail-biting win in a last-ball thriller against a dominant Pakistan side.

Kusal Mendis (91), Charith Asalanka (49*) and in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama (48) starred with the bat for the home side in the run chase. This was Sri Lanka's first ODI win over Pakistan in eight years as their previous victory over Men in Green came back in 2015.

Sri Lanka, who are the defending champions of the Asia Cup 2022 - which was held in a T20 format in the UAE, will now face seven-time champions India in a high-octane final in front of a packed R Premadasa Stadium.

For Pakistan, Abdullah Shafique - who scored 52 while opening batting, Mohammad Rizwan, who made 86 off 73 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed (47 off 40 balls) were the key run-getters in the game after they elected to bat first in a must-win game.

"Happy with my performance, happy to get to the final. Those two wickets fell down and we were nervous, but with Charith in the middle, we had hope. He's done this in one game against Afghanistan. I think we also bowled really well, so happy to be in the final."

On his team's performance despite missing some key players, "Wanindu, Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha are main bowlers, but we have these bowlers who are bowling well. This is a young unit. Thanks a lot to the fans for supporting us, please do so in the final as well."

Winning captain, Dasun Shanaka (SL): We had the game under control, but the loss of wickets took it till the last over. We gave them a chance to come back in the game, but we knew Charith could get us home. We had a discussion before batting and we discussed the mistakes we made in the India game."

"[On run chase after 10 overs] We gave away wickets in the first 10 overs, and Kusal and Sadeera played brilliant knocks. I think they are the best players of spin in the Sri Lanka squad. Losing captain, Babar Azam (PAK): [On the decision to bowl Shaheen and Zaman] In the end, we decided to bowl our best bowlers. That's why I decided to bowl Shaheen the second last over and then we believed in Zaman Khan for the final over. SL played really well, they played better cricket than us, that's why they won. We weren't up to the mark with our bowling and fielding, that's why we lost."

"[On one major factor that could have been different for Pakistan] In the middle overs, we are not bowling well. That partnership [between Mendis and Samarawickrama] cost us. We are starting well, we are finishing well, but we are not taking wickets in the middle overs."
