PBKS Retention List for IPL 2025: Punjab Kings failed to retain their star and local boy Arshdeep Singh on the deadline day of IPL Retention for the 2025 season. As myKhel reported yesterday that Arshdeep Singh was keen on entering the auction.

Punjab’s retention decisions this year underline a shift towards nurturing young, domestic talent. Talks are believed to be ongoing between PBKS and Arshdeep Singh for securing the service of the pacer for a whopping Rs 18 crore, especially as teams increasingly value specialist T20 bowlers capable of thriving in high-pressure situations. The left-arm pacer’s possible retention will allow Punjab to retain a strong local connection, given Arshdeep’s Mohali roots and his strong fan following in the region.
Newly appointed head coach Ricky Ponting's influence is evident as Punjab may retain two uncapped players—Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma —both of whom impressed in the previous season with promising performances. This strategic focus on uncapped talents hints at a rebuild under Ponting, potentially releasing high-profile names to increase their auction budget and create a fresh roster foundation.
If a sum of Rs 8 crore is spent on two of the uncapped players, PBKS in all likelihood will have the biggest purse at the IPL auction at Rs 112 crore. In case they managed to retain the services of Arshdeep Singh, they may still have a purse of Rs 94 crore at the auction.

The inclusion of Ashutosh Sharma as one of the key retentions reflects the franchise's faith in his hard-hitting abilities. Although his performances have shown inconsistency, Punjab believes in his potential as a game-changer, especially in the middle-order, where his explosive batting style can be pivotal.
