Profile

Australian cricketer David Warner is regarded as one of the modern-day greats. The explosive left-handed batter was born on October 27, 1986 in Paddington, Australia. The southpaw made his international debut against South Africa in a T20I in 2009. At the time of his debut, Warner became the first Australian to be chosen for a national squad in any format without playing first-class cricket. Warner's explosive and unorthodox batting technique soon made him crowd favourite and was made the vice-captain in Test and ODI matches in 2015. He was the first Aussie batter to slamm 7 ODI hundreds in a single calendar year, besides being the first to accumulate 1,500 runs in T20Is. Warner also became the fourth athlete to receive the Allan Border Medal more than once by winning it three times in 2016 (first), 2017 (second), and 2020 (third). Warner is one of the most successful and consistent overseas players in IPL. He is the sole foreign player to score more than 5000 runs in the IPL. Known to be a man, who minces no words, the Aussie often invited controversies. He was handed a match ban by Cricket Australia back in 2013 for a bar altercation with English rival player Joe Root. However, his darkest days came in 2018 during the infamous ball tampering scandal when he was found guilty of playing an active role in the incident by ICC and Australian board. He was subsequently handed a year-long ban from all forms and levels of cricket and was never to be considered for leadership role again. Warner started dating former Ironwoman Candice Falzon in 2013 and got married in 2015, and the duo have three daughters. The Warner family has been a popular figure on social media, especially among Indian fans.
