The big crescendo - We have seen all 8 teams take the stage over the last couple of days via not one, but two doubleheaders. The action doesn't stop as we continue with the doubleheaders on Sunday, August 9. First up, Dindigul Dragons will take on Chepauk Super Gillies, who are looking for their first win. After that, it will be the reigning champions Tiruppur Tamizhans taking on the unbeaten Nellai Royal Kings, all in Dindigul. The first ball of the first game is scheduled to be bowled at 10 am GMT (3.30 pm IST)< but as usual, you can join us sooner for the build-up as well. ADIOS. TAKE CARE.
Player of the Match - Rajkumar K is given the accolade for his composed and match-winning knock of 67 not out off 43 balls.
The Presentation ceremony...
Breaking the back of the chase - Trichy Grand Cholas knew that the target was a small one and even though they lost a wicket in the Powerplay, they made sure to get ahead of the required rate. After an early blitz from skipper Suresh Kumar, it was the 99-run stand between Rajkumar K and Jagatheesan Kousik that got Trichy into a commanding position. Rajkumar went on to remain unbeaten on 67 off 43 balls as R Rajkumar came in and smacked a couple of sixes to finish things off with ease. SKM Salem Spartans didn't have a great outing in the first innings after opting to bat first and they were listless for a while in the run chase as well. They gave away too many boundaries in the Powerplay, and even though Rahil Shah and S Ajith Ram bowled economical spells in the second half of the chase, by then, the game was already over.
Trichy are off the mark - A comfortable victory with 3 overs left to spare, and Trichy Grand Cholas have their first win of the season. A solid all-round performance from them, and they hand SKM Salem Spartans their second consecutive defeat at the start of the new season.
SIX! Done and dusted! R Rajkumar ends proceedings in style as Trichy Grand Cholas win by 7 wickets. Karthick Manikandan tosses it up again, full and on off. R Rajkumar employs the step hit and clobbers it straight down the ground for a biggie.
1 run, the batter goes back in the crease and flicks it away through mid wicket for a single.
1 run, that is punched off the back foot for a single.
SIX! Brave from Karthick but that's begging to be hit. Loopy delivery, floated up full and outside off. R Rajkumar lunges ahead and powers it over wide long off for a biggie.
1 run, that is flicked off the back foot for a run.
FOUR! Lovely shot! Tossed up well outside off, Rajkumar K gets a big stride forward and nails it over the cover region for a boundary.
Another dot ball, just 5 runs and two wickets in the last couple of overs. Good length on middle, worked away off the back foot to mid-wicket. 17 needed now off 24 balls.
Unlucky for the batter. Tossed up, wide outside off, R Rajkumar gives it a real smack but finds the fielder at covers.
No run, punched with sweet timing but not finding the gap.
R Rajkumar walks out to bat next.
OUT! CAUGHT! This is turning into a scrappy finish from Trichy Grand Cholas. Rahil Shah drifts the ball into the leg stump. Jafar Jamal sits down for the slog sweep but hits it flat and down to deep square leg. Karthick Manikandan takes an easy catch in the deep and the power-hitter Jamal departs early.
No run, punched with sweet timing but not finding the gap.
FOUR! Edged away, and that's a bit unlucky for the bowler. Nicely flighted on off, turning it away. Jafar Jamal brings out the slog sweep but gets an outside edge to the right of the keeper and the ball dribbles down to the deep third fence.
A wild slog for just a single. One run and a wicket off that over. Tossed up on middle, drifting in. Jafar Jamal clears the front leg and swings it off the inner half of the blade towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
No run, that is flicked away but straight to the fielder.
