The IPL 2024 match number 8 saw Sunrisers Hyderabad achieve a historic milestone against Mumbai Indians by recording the highest team total in IPL history. But the excitement didn't end there as Mumbai Indians also returned the favour with the bat in the run chase, as a result, it ended up as the highest team aggregate in T20 format.
Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad amassed a colossal 277 runs for the loss of 3 wickets on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. In the run chase, MI scored 246/5 in the allotted 20 overs.

The Pat Cummins-led SRH exhibited an explosive performance against Mumbai Indians, surpassing the 11-year-old record set by Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB had set the previous record of 263/5 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2013. SRH's accomplishment placed them at the pinnacle of this prestigious record after over a decade.
In response, Mumbai Indians showcased their formidable batting prowess, engaging in a spirited chase against SRH bowlers. The MI opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan set a blistering pace, reaching 56 runs without loss in just 3.1 overs, causing concern for the opposition. Contributions from Rohit, Tilak Verma (64 off 34), Tim David, Hardik Pandya, and Naman Dhir took Mumbai Indians to a total of 246/5 in 20 overs.
Despite MI's valiant effort, SRH emerged victorious by 31 runs, in a match that witnessed a record-breaking total of 523 runs scored. This match also set records for the highest number of sixes and the highest collective run tally in a T20 game.
For context, the highest match aggregate in a T20 international match was 517 runs, achieved in a game between South Africa and West Indies at Centurion on March 26, 2023.
