Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden T20I century, Ravi Bishnoi star in Team India's quarter-final win over Nepal in Asian Games 2023

Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines in Asian Games Cricket: The Indian Cricket Team on Tuesday (October 3) registered a 23-run win against Nepal in their first match of the Asian Games 2023 at Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou.

Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad - who is leading the Men in Blue for the first time, the triumph was sufficient for the team to progress to the semi-finals of the multinational event. Asian Games 2023: Yashasvi Jaiswal creates history with his 48-ball century against Nepal

Team India secures win, but questions remain

India delivered a noteworthy performance, accumulating an impressive 202/4 in 20 overs. The squad's strategy minimized Nepal to 179/9 in their 20 overs. Right-arm pacer Avesh Khan and leg-spinner Ravi Bishoni - who is known for his exceptional skill and technique, were the top-performing Indian bowlers, each capturing three wickets.

However, it must be acknowledged that the Nepali team displayed admirable competitive spirit, refusing to be intimidated by the higher-ranked Indian team. Spotting certain vulnerabilities, the Nepalese squad capitalized on opportunities, pushing the Indian bowlers to their limits.

Arshdeep Singh, the star left-arm pacer, conceded more than 10 runs an over. It is vital that the acting head coach on the tour, VVS Laxman, and the bowling coach critically review this performance and make strategic amendments.

The Nepalese bowlers must be credited for creating a rough start for the Indian side once the latter elected to bat first. However, the spotlight shone on India's left-handed batters who successfully countered the challenges.

Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show

Among the stars of the day was Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young and promising batter who managed to slam his T20I career's maiden century. Jaiswal made history by becoming the first Indian to accomplish a three-digit score in the Asian Games.

With a mature approach and astute shot selection, the Mumbaikar outshone his counterparts on a ground where they had struggled. Riding a thrilling wave of anticipation, the Rajasthan Royals opener - who slammed a quickfire ton in IPL 2023 - mistakenly thought a boundary hit was a six, delaying his century realization until the next ball. His century was scored off just 48 deliveries - a terrific feat. The batter, however, was dismissed on the very next delivery he faced.

Sharing in the left-handed batting glory were Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh. Taking command in the death overs, they leveraged their powerful batting prowess to score a remarkable 55* off only 22 deliveries. Their monstrous hits at the fag end of the innings were instrumental in leading India to a formidable total.

Learning From Mistakes Important

In the wake of their recent victory, India has confidently ensured a medal in the men's category. This followed women's team successfully securing a gold medal. However, this win shouldn't stop the team management from sitting with the boys as they require a critical self-evaluation ahead of the semi-final match.

This young team must acknowledge and learn from the mistakes made in the game against Nepal to better their performance in the future. One can say that the team looked a little rusty at the start, in batting, bowling, and fielding, as it was playing the first game.

However, with the vast amount of exposure this team possesses a lot needs to be done to achieve the gold medal and stamp their authority as being one of the best cricketing nations when it comes to the bench strength as the senior team prepares for the World Cup 2023 at home.
