Hitomi Obara Biography

Sakamoto's journey in wrestling has not been without its challenges. She lost a qualifying match for Japan's 2004 Olympic Games team to Saori Yoshida. This loss led her to lose her passion for the sport, and she gained 20kg. However, a meeting with her coach Kenji Fujikawa reignited her passion, leading to her first comeback.

Multiple Retirements and Comebacks

After missing her spot for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Sakamoto retired again and started coaching her younger sister Makiko. She later made a second comeback, competing in the 48kg category. This change in category from 51kg to 48kg in 2010 led to back issues.

Sakamoto is married to Yasushi and speaks Japanese fluently. She pursued higher education at Chukyo Women's University in Obu, Japan. Her younger sister Makiko has also wrestled for Japan.
