Schmid's initial foray into sports included dancing and horse riding. However, frequent falls from the horse led her to try swimming. This switch proved pivotal in her life. She now trains up to four hours daily in the pool under the guidance of her coach, Bernd Berkhahn, who also coaches the national team.

Schmid represents SC Magdeburg in Germany. In April 2020, she switched clubs from SV Nikar Heidelberg to SC Magdeburg to be closer to her family in Osterburg. The move was driven by a need for familial proximity and personal peace. She found the long train journeys from Heidelberg to Osterburg taxing.

Personal Life and Hobbies

Outside of swimming, Schmid enjoys reading, meeting friends, and going to the cinema. Her partner, Lukas Martens, is also a swimmer who represented Germany at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This shared passion for swimming strengthens their bond.

Schmid's talent has been recognised with several awards. In 2018, she was named Female Athlete of the Year in Heidelberg by the City of Heidelberg. The previous year, she was honoured as Junior Female Swimmer of the Year by the German Swimming Federation (DSV).
