Jordan Chiles Biography

Chiles' career has been influenced by US gymnast Simone Biles. She also looks up to Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross, and Jordyn Wieber. Her nickname "Chick" was given by her family because she resembled the cartoon character 'Chicken Little' when wearing her T-ball helmet.

Challenges and Injuries

In August 2019, Chiles underwent surgery on her left wrist to repair torn cartilage. Earlier that year, she dislocated her toe. Despite these setbacks, she continued to pursue her passion for gymnastics.

Philosophy and Approach

Chiles believes gymnastics doesn't always have to be about strictness. She realised this after watching Simone Biles compete with joy and laughter. This inspired Chiles to adopt a more relaxed approach to the sport.

College and Career Decisions

After high school in 2019, Chiles considered quitting gymnastics but decided to move to Texas to join the World Champions Centre with coaches Laurent and Cecile Landi. They reignited her love for the sport with their encouragement.

Chiles studies Business and Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She deferred her enrolment in 2020 to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed until 2021.

Business Ventures

In June 2020, Chiles launched her clothing brand, Melanin Drip Clothing Co. She aimed to create apparel that honours black heritage and celebrates young black women like herself.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Chiles aims to win gold at the Olympic Games and world championships. With her dedication and resilience, she continues to strive towards these goals while balancing her roles as an athlete, business owner, and student.

Chiles trains under coach Janelle McDonald at UCLA. Her hobbies include shoes and fashion. Fluent in English, she manages her academic pursuits alongside her athletic career.

Jordan Chiles' journey in gymnastics is marked by perseverance and passion. From a young girl cartwheeling down aisles to a determined athlete aiming for Olympic gold, she embodies dedication and resilience in every aspect of her life.
