Kevin Borlée Biography

Kevin's father, Jacques Borlee, competed in the 400m at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. His identical twin brother Jonathan and younger brother Dylan have also represented Belgium in sprints. Olivia, his older sister, won silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, later upgraded to gold.

Club and Coaching

Kevin is part of the Olympic Essenbeek Halle (OEH) club in Lembeek, Belgium. His father, Jacques Borlee, serves as his coach. In December 2020, Kevin and his brothers joined OEH, moving from Racing Club de Bruxelles. They believe this switch will help them perform at the highest level.

Injuries and Recovery

Kevin has faced several injuries throughout his career. He sustained a stress fracture in his foot in 2009, an injury his twin brother Jonathan experienced six weeks earlier. In September 2019, Kevin injured his back but recovered to compete at the World Championships in Doha.

Awards and Honours

Kevin has received numerous accolades for his performances. He was honoured by the Belgian prime minister for winning bronze in the 400m at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. He also received the Golden Spike Award as the Royal Belgian Athletics League's Male Athlete of the Year in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

Milestones

In 2013, Kevin, along with his brothers Jonathan and Dylan, became the first three siblings to compete together in a race at the World Championships. They participated in the 4x400m relay at the event held in Moscow.

Everest Quest

In October 2019, Kevin and his Belgian national 4x400m relay teammates climbed to Mount Everest base camp as a team-building exercise ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The climb also aimed to raise money for SOS Children's Villages charity. The group completed this challenging feat in ten days.
