Chih-Kai Lee, an athlete from Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei, has made significant strides in the world of gymnastics. Lee has achieved several firsts for Chinese Taipei in gymnastics. He won a silver medal on pommel horse at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first artistic gymnast from Chinese Taipei to win an Olympic medal. In 2018, he won bronze on pommel horse at the World Championships in Doha and gold at the Asian Games in Indonesia.
Lee's accolades include being named Best Male Athlete at the 2018 Sport Elite Awards Ceremony and receiving the 2019 Guo-Guang Sports Medal. In 2022, he was honoured as an Outstanding Athlete by the Taoyuan city government.
Lee has faced several injuries throughout his career. He strained his left biceps muscle in March 2018, requiring three months of recovery. A month before the 2016 Rio Olympics, he broke his foot and tore ankle ligaments, limiting him to compete only on pommel horse.
Lee resides in Taoyuan with his wife Wu Ya Yun and their son Kyson, born in 2022. Besides gymnastics, he enjoys playing baseball. He speaks Mandarin and balances his roles as an athlete, business owner, and student.
Looking ahead, Lee aims to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His dedication to gymnastics is evident in his sporting philosophy: "If you decide to do it, give your best. If you work hard and try hard, you will have a 50% chance to succeed. Otherwise, the chance is zero."
