Li Xiaoxia Biography

She was inspired to play table tennis after watching other children play while her mother was at work. This early interest led her to pursue the sport with dedication. She is right-handed and made her international debut for China in 2001.

Influences and Interests

Her career has been significantly influenced by Coach Li Sun. She looks up to Chinese table tennis player Deng Yaping and Swedish player Jan-Ove Waldner. Outside of table tennis, she enjoys collecting Hello Kitty toys.

Challenges Faced

In late 2014, she was diagnosed with pneumonia and developed allergies following a blood transfusion. This illness caused her to miss the early stages of the qualification process for the 2015 World Championships in Suzhou, China. She also had to withdraw from the women's doubles final at the 2013 World Tour Russian Open due to illness.

Additionally, she withdrew from the 2013 World Tour Austrian Open final against Ding Ning because of a wrist injury. These setbacks did not deter her from achieving great success in her career.

Awards and Honours

She was named Best Female Athlete of the 2012 Olympic Games by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at their inaugural Gala Awards Dinner in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2014. In 2013, she received the Female Table Tennis Star Award at the inaugural International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Star Awards in Dubai, UAE.

In 2012, she was named Table Tennis Athlete of the Year in China. She also earned the title of Best Athlete in the Super League in China multiple times: 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. Additionally, she has been awarded the May 1st Labour Medal and the May 4th Youth Medal in China.

Retirement and Charity Work

She announced her retirement from competitive international table tennis after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In 2014, she bought a gold table tennis bat for 40,000 Chinese yuan (6,500 USD) at a charity auction.
