Liu Ying Goh Biography

Goh's most memorable sporting achievement is winning silver in mixed doubles at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She and her partner, Chan Peng Soon, became the first mixed doubles pair from Malaysia to win an Olympic medal. Goh also represented Malaysia at the 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games, making her the first female badminton player from Malaysia to compete in three editions of the Olympics.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout her career, Goh has faced numerous injuries. She suffered a knee injury at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and has a history of knee problems dating back to 2008. In 2014, she underwent surgery on both knees due to meniscus and ligament tears. She also experienced knee issues in 2017.

In May 2017, Goh underwent surgery on her right shoulder and returned to competition in November of the same year. She also suffered an injury to her right hand at the 2017 India Super Series event in New Delhi. Additionally, she faced an ankle injury at the Denmark Open in October 2016 and a back problem during the Selangor Open in February 2012.

Goh and fellow badminton player Lee Zii Jia were Malaysia's flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This honour reflects her significant contributions to Malaysian badminton.

End of a Partnership

In late 2021, Goh parted ways with her mixed doubles partner Chan Peng Soon after 13 years. Reflecting on their partnership, she expressed gratitude for his support through their successes and challenges. "To me, he was the best badminton partner," she said.
