Martin Sinkovic Biography

Martin started rowing at HAVK Mladost in Zagreb under the guidance of coach Nikola Bralic. His training regime is rigorous, involving up to 30 kilometres of paddling and 60 kilometres of cycling daily. This intense routine can last up to six hours each day.

Achievements and Awards

Martin's career is decorated with numerous accolades. He and his brother Valent were named Men's Crew of the Year by World Rowing in 2016 and 2019. They also received the Crew of the Year award from the Croatian Olympic Committee six times consecutively from 2014 to 2019.

In addition, Martin was honoured with the Franjo Bucar State Award for Sport in Croatia in 2012 and 2014. The Zagreb Sports Association named his quadruple sculls crew the Best Team in 2012 after their silver medal win at the London Olympics.

Memorable Moments

One of Martin's most memorable achievements is winning a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This victory marked Croatia's first Olympic gold medal in rowing. Martin considers this medal the most precious of his career.

In 2014, Martin and Valent made history by becoming the first Croatian rowers to win more than two gold medals at the world championships. They went on to win four world titles by 2015, five by 2018, and six by 2019.

After their success in double sculls, Martin and Valent decided to switch to the pair discipline post-2016 Olympics. This decision was not made lightly, as it meant starting from scratch. However, they aimed to make history by winning European, world, and Olympic titles in two different boats.

In the semifinal of the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam, Martin and Valent became the first double sculls crew to break the six-minute mark with a time of 5:59.720. This achievement earned them immense respect within the rowing community.
