From a young age, Mima Ito was immersed in the world of table tennis. Her mother, Minori, who competed at the club level in Japan and later became a qualified coach, played a significant role in shaping her career. By primary school, Ito was training for over six hours daily.

Club and Coaching

Currently, Mima Ito represents Starts Corporation in Japan. She is coached by Taisuke Matsuzaki, who serves as both her national and personal coach. Ito plays right-handed and has shown exceptional skill and determination throughout her career.

Achievements and Milestones

Mima Ito's list of accomplishments is extensive. She made history at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games by winning gold in mixed doubles with partner Jun Mizutani. This victory marked the first time Japanese table tennis players had secured an Olympic gold medal.

At just 15 years and 300 days old, Ito became the youngest table tennis player to win an Olympic medal when she earned bronze in the team event at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. Additionally, she and Miu Hirano formed the youngest women's doubles team to win a World Tour title at the 2014 German Open.
