Asian Games Boxing: Indian boxer Preeti Pawar on Tuesday (October 3) suffered a defeat in the 54kg women's semifinals and had to contend with a bronze medal in the ongoing Asian Games 2023.

Preeti, the 2022 Asian Championships bronze medalist Preeti, lost to reigning Asian Games gold medalist China's Chang Yuan 0-5 in the semifinals. The Haryana girl didn't get to a good start in the first bout as she lost it via a split verdict of 1-4.

Already pushed on the back foot, the Bhivani girl had to put up a strong show to make a comeback and keep her hopes alive. But the defending Asian Games champion was too good for the young Indian, who made her debut in the continental competition.

With her bronze medal, Preeti became the second boxer from India after reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg) to win a bronze medal in the continental showpiece.

Meanwhile, reigning World Champion and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) stormed into the Asian Games 2022 final with a dominating 5-0 win in the semifinals over Thailand's Maneekon Baison.

With the win, Lovlina became the fourth Indian pugilist to win the Olympic quota for the Paris Olympics after Nikhat Zareen, Preeti, and Parveen Hooda.
